The Exekias Kylix (also known as the Dionysus Cup or Dionysus crossing the sea) is one of the most famous black figure Ancient Greek vase paintings and one of the masterpieces of the potter Exekias.
Dionysus, god of wine, was captured by pirates and he turned them into dolphins, whereas he grew grapevines on the mast. Dionysus is calm, holding a wine horn and reclining in the boat amongst seven swimming dolphins and seven bunches of grapes, symbols of good luck.
